The Day the Music Stopped

The day the music stopped
Our jaws droppedWhen we witnessed such an atrocity
Their violenceFollowed by our silenceAt the notion of such brutality
Life met deathWhen the nightmare of insanityBecame a reality
Children never to see the love in parent’s eyesA nation of spectators watch as the sky criesFor the lost souls robbed of life
A husband is gone unable to comfort a widowed wife
The day the music stopped
News reports flooded our screens
On life support are America’s dreamsOf “Oh it could never happen to us”
But now whom do we trust?
Tom Clancy’s prophecy reigns true
Palestinian school children burn the red, white, and blue
The day the music stopped
Dan Rather was left with a loss for words
It’s like Mother Nature knew, no more singing birds
The president pleaded with us to get back to normalcy
While congress declares war formally
The day the music stopped
It was like no other
How could one man take another man’s life?
We suppose to be brothers
